“Fashion you can buy, but style you possess. The key to style is learning who you are, which takes years. There’s no how-to road map to style. It’s about self-expression and, above all, attitude.” – Iris Apfel
If I could give a life superlative to someone for “Best Style” it would be Lindsay Jakubauskas. This bright eyed, creative beauty is one that isn’t scared to stick out in the crowd. I remember meeting this small town girl from Trenton, TN in 2001. She has a colorful personality and the best laugh with a superb fashion sense. We were both at college orientation at the University of Tennessee and so excited for what the future would hold! Since that day 16 years ago, life has taken Lindsay from the Nashville music industry as a song plugger, to living out of a suitcase dating the man of her dreams, tying the knot in 2010, and eventually to present day. To following her heart to do what she loves, Sidney Clark Designs.
“More is more and less is a bore” said American fashion icon, Iris Apfel. This is a quote that describes Lindsay so well and happens to be one of her favorites. She is always dressed with ease topping it off with some statement jewelry. It may be some incredible black ensemble with stacked bracelets or a necklace that makes your jaw drop because it is that amazing! Lindsay is joint business owners of Sidney Clark Designs, an online boutique, with her mother, Mary Lynn, and her aunt, Carol. Their target market is anyone from 16 to a youthful 96. Lindsay said “I always wanted to have my own boutique”. Now she has the opportunity to follow this dream with two women that have always taught her to “stand out and be different”. She comes from a family of women that all love fashion and design. She is close to her family and she speaks of them with a beaming smile. When these three women started Sidney Clark Designs they began by selling funky, statement jewelry pieces! The jewelry consisted of pieces they had made themselves mixed with other designers pieces which then led to them adding clothing and shoes to the boutique.
One of the highlights for Lindsay is going to market in New York City, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. The clothing their online boutique carries is some like their jewelry. Stand out. Basic pieces with a twist. You can find sizes varying from XS to XL to fit any woman from size 0 to 16. For Lindsay she says it is “important to me to always feel good. That mindset is so powerful”. Any of the Sidney Clark Designs outfits can come together in under 5 minutes. She said “if I can have a business that can serve me easily then I want serve others that way”. All three of these women are funky, outside the box thinkers which allows them to help clients look at a piece and see it styled several different ways.
I asked “why the name Sidney Clark Designs” and with no surprise it is a family name. In the early 1900s, Lindsay’s great-great aunt, Kittie Kyle, was married in a beautiful two piece lace dress to Mr. Sidney Clark. When Lindsay’s mother and aunt were little girls they remembered seeing this dress and adoring it. So when Lindsay’s mother and aunt opened their own store years ago they named it Kittie Kyle. This store helped Memphis women style their clothing and also incorporate lace back into their wardrobes. They sold Kittie Kyle some years ago before their online boutique opened. So when it was time for these three women to pick a name they wanted something that carried that sense of style while inspiring them. So they picked Sidney Clark. It is such a timeless and unforgettable name just like the pieces they carry. Sidney Clark Designs can be ordered online and shipped to you right out of Nashville. Clients can also schedule to do a pop up shop in the comfort of their own space. The hostess of the home show can invite friends over to shop and in return get some fabulous pieces to add to her wardrobe. Clients of Sidney Clark Designs stand out in a crowd wearing the beautiful hidden gems from this special online boutique! So take Lindsay’s advice “stand out and be different”.
