One of my personal favorite Bible verses is Psalms 119:105 “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path”. Nashville is a lucky city that God led Amy Garges here through her first passion- music. This bubbly brunette was raised in Plano, TX focusing on musical theater in High School and had dreams of going to New York but as she recalls “music brought me to Nashville”. Amy attended Ohio University majoring in Vocal Performance and minored in Audio Production. She originally came to Nashville for an internship at MCA Records which led her to her first job out of college. Since then Music City has been her home and she has worked with Tony Brown, well-known record producer, for 17 years in different areas ranging from production assistant to estate manager. Amy’s career in music has allowed her to carry out her first passion, build lasting relationships, and allowed her to see other talents within herself. Amy says “I’m my own obstacle but my husband is my encourager and thinks I can do anything.” Amy is a believer that life will unfold and we just need to trust in that and have faith.
Katrina Mayer, a motivational speaker and bestselling author, said “get rid of clutter and you may just find it was blocking the door you’ve been looking for” and this is so Amy! Amy jokes that anything in her home is often for sale and does not like clutter. This mom of four likes to stay organized, do projects in her own home, and decorate for the changing seasons. In 2014, her and her husband, Bob- a Nashville Real Estate Agent, started renovating their home. A little over a year ago she started doing side jobs working on decorating and organizing areas like bathrooms, attics, and closets. This led her to a new business idea to pursue… creating Distinct Lifestyle Management focusing on home management and procedures. She has worked with a variety of clients including high profile clients and completed projects that are focused on estate management but also had aspects of organizing and decorating areas like garages, storage units, cabinets and pantries, playrooms, light fixture changes, dining and living rooms, foyer design plus more. Amy said “each project is special and different but decorating projects have been the most gratifying turning spaces into useable, livable spaces”. She likes The Container Store for organizing, Target for accessorizing on a budget, Land of Nod and Pottery Barn for kids décor, Discount Plumbing and Electric to change lighting, Rugs USA for rugs in addition to a list of other amazing spots. When organizing and designing she likes to keep peoples’ budget and idea in mind but always stays true to herself by shopping smart because everyone can appreciate a good find!
Amy is beautiful inside and out and always wants to do her best. She “genuinely treats people well because we all have different gifts and talents”. She says her clients inspire her as she gets to know them by creating Pinterest boards together, asking where they like to shop, and discovering what they like. Her goal is to “make their life better and more simplified for them” but she gains confidence when her clients project is complete and they feel happy. This remarkably talented woman is always thankful, grounded, and joyful. Her best tip for anyone is “design the way you want to live” which reminds me of a William Morris quote “have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, of believe to be beautiful”.
